OK, if I decide to get an indexer, what will it cost?

Well, that depends. AnDix usually structures its fees in a simple formula, so much per page of indexable material. For example, the contents pages and acknowledgement pages are not usually indexable. However, pages with pictures are.

The fee depends in most part on the material.

For general-interest books, three to five indexable items per page is normal and would get our lowest fee. But when the number of items escalates per page the index gets much larger making it more difficult to enter and edit. This would increase the per page cost. In general, fees range from $3.00 to $5.00 per page.

Academic books require more work, and sometimes multiple indexes (for example, both a subject and an author index). In general the price range is $4.00 to $6.00 per page (and up to $7.50 for multiple indexes).

Included with the cost of the index is 1–2 hours of editing the index after review. Further editing is billed at $50.00 per hour.

We can only determine the cost of your index by reviewing a sample of your book. You can send a representative chapter or two by mail or over the internet, then we can quote a price and discuss options.
